Which is alright for the time being, but I would like to set it up to be able to have say, and But as of the moment I am having difficulty with that. Right now, I have it working, but I cannot have the same username on both domains.
Macos server mail how to#
I think that the best way would be to set it up with MySQL, but I'm not sure how to configure postfix with that, being that I have multiple domains that I want mail to go to. I'm having trouble getting postfix to tell dovecot where to send mail when I use the setup for usernames. Mail (done right) is one of the most complex things you can do on a webserver. It works good in the beginning and when not sending many e-mails creating the illusion that all is easy peasy but it will create some stress later on. An IP with no history will easily get blacklisted or filtered for the dumbest reasons. An IP with good history is much much much more likely to hit Inbox. Hours of work to setup, many more hours to debug and pulling your hair out to figure why you got on another blacklist.

You are going to have such a hard time setting it up the right way, securing it, maintaining it, keeping off blacklists and generally avoiding to hit that Spam folder when sending e-mail that you'll just wish you paid for external mail service. I began with this but moved it as a footnote: Only knew of 2 complete tutorials online which where 30+ pages long of commands and how to alter config files but I can't find them now with a quick search. I have always done everything "by hand" but since you say you are not experienced you could try this and see how it goes: Have no idea how effective it is just noticed it a while back, never tested. They either miss to cover some security basics, don't install and configure all the components you'd expect or simply ignore setting up SPF, DKIM signing and PTR records which are vital to mail avoiding spam filters. You will find many tutorials online but few are complete or entirely correct.
